When your power goes out, our crews go all-out to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible. Regardless of the day or time, we have dedicated resources at the ready, to serve you.

While folks in the community were out enjoying their weekend, a short but powerful thunderstorm tore through our service territory early Saturday evening, affecting the electric service of more than 182,800 customers – most in Jefferson County. The storm packed winds of nearly 70 miles per hour, which uprooted trees, broke branches and downed 1,758 power lines.

All hands on deck

Immediately, our crews went into action, assessing damage, protecting the public and restoring power. To assist in this Herculean restoration effort, we brought in more than 1,650 workers from Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania to complement the full array of LG&E and KU crews, who led the charge.

In our Retail area, employees answered more than 130,316 calls and addressed customers’ service needs in our walk-in centers.

In addition, crews worked diligently to restore power to Jefferson County Public Schools, which delayed the first day back to school due to power and communications outages and roads blocked by debris.

Primary restoration efforts were completed today in the areas hit hardest by Mother Nature, which is a remarkable feat given the magnitude and widespread damage of the storm.

No power, no access, right?

We know that communicating about an outage is almost as important as the restoration itself, because you have important decisions to make about your family or business.

That’s why in addition to our normal communications channels, we use this blog, our Twitter account, and online outage map and outage map app for smart phones to provide you with near real-time updates and important information as an emergency situation unfolds.

You can also register your account at our website to report an outage and learn more about estimated restoration times once they’re known, in addition to using our automated telephone system.

We know you’re not likely to use your desktop computer if your power is out, but with today’s growing technology-savvy culture, these tools serve the needs of wireless customers who prefer instant online communication.

While this storm wasn’t typical, our response was…going above and beyond to bring the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Have something to share?
