You may have seen us at the Excel Awards honoring outstanding teachers; perhaps you said “hi” to Louie the Lightning Bug at your town’s fall festival; maybe you saw some of our employees volunteering at a local charity. There’s no doubt that our company has a large community presence and that we’re dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.

Recently, Business First newspaper awarded our company with a 2012 Corporate Giving Award for making financial contributions to benefit human services, health, the environment, education, art and culture. LG&E and KU Energy earned a fourth-place ranking among 14 other “Partners in Philanthropy” winners in the large company category, which also included the Humana Foundation and United Parcel Service.

In conjunction with the awards ceremony, Business First published a special section profiling the award-winning companies and one of their nonprofit partners. LG&E’s partnership with Project Warm was highlighted in the publication.

In the last 20 years, LG&E has donated more than $2 million to fund Project Warm’s weatherization programs, kits and fundraisers. Additionally, employees are active volunteers for the annual Project Warm Blitz. Last year, LG&E sent 46 teams of employees and family members — a total of 149 volunteers — to help insulate more than 80 homes.

At LG&E and KU, we are proud to have been part of this community for more than a century, and we look forward to being a partner in philanthropy well into the next century.
