LG&E and KU Launch Free Outage App for Smartphones
Thursday, June 16, 2011
You now have a new way to get near real-time information about power outages, and it’s right at your fingertips.
LG&E and KU’s outage map app is now available for download on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices. Just search for “LG&E and KU Outage Maps” in your phone’s app store and, once downloaded, you’re able to view our outage map in a platform designed specifically for your mobile phone.
Like the outage map found on our website, the new smartphone app displays outage numbers in an interactive graphic and chart format showing outages by county and by zip code.
The app is updated automatically in regular intervals based on information available in the companies’ outage management system. Additionally, once our operational staff assesses the extent of an outage, estimated restoration times are provided on the map.
While we work year-round to provide reliable service, sometimes Mother Nature throws her worst at us. When the lights do go out, we work as safely and as quickly as possible to restore power. At the same time, we want you to have as much information as possible in ways that are convenient to you.
The launch of our mobile outage app is part of that larger effort. Additional mobile communications offerings, such as two-way outage texting and email/phone-based outage updates and notifications, are currently in development.
So, download the app today and let us know what you think.
Until next time, keep using energy safely and wisely.
