Don’t Miss “Operation Backpack” Aug. 4 in Lexington
Friday, August 3, 2012
For thousands of children across the state, going back to school with the supplies they need will again be possible with the assistance of Kentucky Utilities.
For the seventh year in a row, KU is helping provide elementary, middle and high school kids with the gear they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.
As a primary sponsor of Operation Backpack, KU is supplying 8,000 free backpacks to the children of Fayette County. The YMCA of Central Kentucky is the primary coordinator of the back-to-school rallies held tomorrow (Aug. 4) at 19 neighborhood locations across Fayette County.
Other companies have come together to provide the classroom supplies, including pencils, markers, scissors, paper, folders, binders, and erasers. Many of the students receiving the backpacks are from low-income households where assistance is needed to pay for school supplies.
Parents can register to receive student backpacks at one of the distribution sites below tomorrow between 9 and 11 a.m. The backpacks will be distributed at noon.
