#GivingTuesday: LG&E and KU pledge more than $1.6 Million to Kentucky nonprofits

LG&E and KU just wrapped its annual charitable giving campaign, known as Power of One. For the sixth year in a row, employee pledges to nonprofit organizations across the utilities’ service territory exceeded more than $1 million. With additional contributions from the LG&E and KU Foundation, the companies’ overall total reached $1.6 million again this year.

So, it’s fitting that we announce our overall pledge to Kentucky nonprofit organizations on #GivingTuesday. Although “Giving Tuesday” is a new movement that encourages charitable giving across the nation, for LG&E and KU employees, giving back to the communities where they live and work is a long-held tradition.

More than 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in Power of One — a participation rate that is more than twice the national average for employee charitable giving campaigns.

The continued success of LG&E and KU’s annual charitable giving effort means that once again, more than 27 nonprofit organizations across the state will start the New Year with added financial security and the ability to assist more Kentucky families with essential programs and services.

Since 2005, LG&E and KU's employee giving campaign has raised more than $12 million through payroll deductions, event fundraisers, direct-to-charity donations and foundation support.

Visit the LG&E and KU website for more information on the company's corporate responsibility efforts.

#GivingTuesday

Created by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation, the Tuesday following the Thanksgiving holiday has been designated a national day of giving, called #GivingTuesday™. In its inaugural year, the movement has generated more than 2,000 recognized partners from across the United States who are either registered 501(c)3 organizations with a specific #GivingTuesday initiative, or are for-profit businesses, schools, religious or community groups who have committed to projects that will benefit one or more 501(c)3 organizations.
