Before the KFC YUM! Center sign ever graced the basketball arena in downtown Louisville, a much more prominent sign welcomed visitors to the city.
As commuters crossed the Second Street Bridge in the 1920s, a sign on LG&E’s Waterside facility declared Louisville the “Gateway to the South.”
A recently created “then and now” photo showcases both eras and was submitted by the company as part of the Lou of Old Project, a marketing campaign focused on Louisville’s history. Residents of the city have been asked to share photos of the past and add new photos from the present, taken at the same location.
