Women of Energy: A powerful message from Amanda Chambers
Tuesday, March 18, 2014
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we talked with Amanda Chambers, a Safety Specialist who's entering her fourth year with the company.
What is your favorite part of your job?
"Meeting new people from all walks of life and having the
opportunity to impact them in a positive way."
What is your most memorable work moment?
"Shortly after conducting an Emergency Preparedness
meeting, two employees contacted me asking for a copy of the
presentation. They wanted to go through the information with their families
in order to be prepared for the scenarios discussed. It was a great
feeling knowing that I had reached these employees and brought safety into
their homes."
What would you say to women looking to explore positions in the energy industry?
"I recently received a card from a female colleague
reminding me on how far women in safety had come. She encouraged me to
continue learning and to strive to be the best safety professional I could –
not the best female safety pro– the best safety professional period. I
would offer the same advice – find something that inspires you to be the best
and go for it! Stay true to who you are and what makes you unique. It will make
all the difference in your career."
Are there organizations or community activities you participate in outside of work?
My faith is important to me. I am active in my church and
volunteer my time and talents accordingly. I also support St Jude’s Children’s
research and Catholic Relief Services to assist them in their missions.
