LG&E, KU and ODP increase match for heating assistance programs
Monday, January 28, 2013
With winter in full swing, our community's most vulnerable citizens can sometimes struggle to pay for essential services like heat and power.
Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company provide electric and natural gas service to customers in more than 90 counties in Kentucky, and our Old Dominion Power Company provides electric service to customers in five counties in Virginia.
Within our service footprint, we partner year-round with non-profit and community organizations to provide utility bill assistance and weatherization services to help those in need. This support is even more critical during cold weather months.
We also encourage customers who have the desire to help those in need to make voluntary contributions to our heating assistance programs, which support our most vulnerable community members who may be in dire financial situations, leaving a family with no heat or the immediate prospect of no heat:
--For LG&E customers: Community Winterhelp is a nonprofit organization supported by LG&E and managed by an independent third party, the Louisville Urban League, and fellow area assistance agencies.
-- For KU customers: The WinterCare Energy Fund is a nonprofit organization supported by KU and managed by an independent third party, the Community Action Council.
-- For ODP customers: The WinterShare Fund is a nonprofit organization supported by ODP, and managed by area nonprofit agencies.
LG&E, KU and ODP match customer donations each month and forward the entire amount to agencies for distribution in the counties we serve. Through March 31, we'll make contributions go even further, matching customers' donations $1-for-$1.
How you can donate:
We make it easy for you to support those in need. You can donate by making a recurring monthly pledge or a one-time contribution that can be added to their monthly bills. You can also donate online at my.lge-ku.com after registering your utility account. LG&E customers can also make a donation to Community Winterhelp by visiting www.communitywinterhelp.org.
Our heating assistance programs have helped thousands of area families in need.
With your support, we can ensure those in need continue to receive the assistance they need.
