Today marks the 39th anniversary of the 1974 tornado outbreak which tore through a wide swath of the nation's mid-section.
Kentucky saw a tremendous amount of damage from the twisters. In Louisville, more than 84,000 customers lost power. In our KU service area, transmission lines were severed at 32 points. LG&E and KU crews ventured into the chaos to restore power. Here's a look back at some of the damage to our system:
