Last Chance: Applications Due Dec. 2 for Tree Planting Matching Grants
Wednesday, November 27, 2013
Applications are still available
for "Plant for the Planet" grants from Louisville Gas and Electric
Company and Kentucky Utilities Company to fund qualified tree-plantings by
nonprofit or government entities.
The program awards matching
grants in amounts of $500 to $5,000 to organizations with a history of
successful tree plantings in our service area.
Applications and program information are available for download until Dec. 2 at lge-ku.com/plantfortheplanet.
All applications must be postmarked by Dec. 2 to be eligible for consideration.
In February 2014, applicants will receive a letter announcing the status of
their proposal.
Since the program's launch in 2009, plantings have occurred in a range
of settings that offer public access, including parks, nature preserves as well
as urban and suburban places.

The plantings have occurred in both urban and
rural settings and many have had a unique approach to incorporating trees with
other landscaping settings. Our service territory includes
93 Kentucky counties and five in western Virginia.
We strongly
encourage applicants from throughout our service territories.
An important note, though: following
company policy, only 501(c) (3) nonprofit organizations are eligible for
funding, which does not include neighborhood/condominium associations or
religious groups.
The program is modeled after the United Nations' "Plant for the Planet:
Billion Tree Campaign" to promote the planting of more than one billion
trees annually by individuals, communities and businesses worldwide.
The Plant for the Planet program has planted and helped to sustain more than 20,000 trees in our service territories, and we want that momentum to continue this year. Tree plantings are part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and we're looking forward to supporting additional proposals headed into 2014.
Until next time, keep using energy wisely.
