#GivingTuesday: LG&E, KU Pledge More Than $1.6 Million to Area Nonprofits

On this #GivingTuesday, we're officially announcing the results of our annual employee-giving campaign, called the Power of One.

During our Fall pledge drive, LG&E and KU committed more than $1.6 million, marking the seventh consecutive year employee donations have topped $1 million. This means that our employees have raised more than $14 million since our combined campaign’s inception nine years ago.

Coupled with financial support from the LG&E and KU Foundation, the funding raised during the 2013 Power of One campaign will be allocated to more than 27 nonprofit organizations across our service territory to support much-needed programs and services in 2014.

The Crusade for Children is just one of the many nonprofits supported by LG&E and KU's Power of One Campaign. In the video above, employees present a check to the nonprofit agency during the organization's June pledge drive.

Employee volunteerism is also a major part LG&E and KU's charitable giving.
Louisville-based nonprofit organizations Fund for the Arts, Metro United Way and WHAS Crusade for Children — as well as United Ways across the KU service territory from Barlow, Kentucky to Norton, Virginia — will receive funding through the Power of One campaign.

"Every year, we are amazed by our employees who rally behind their communities by giving their time, donating resources and pledging funds to local charitable organizations. We are grateful for our employees’ generous support during our annual Power of One campaign," said Laura Douglas, vice president of Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs for LG&E and KU, and co-chair of the 2013 Power of One campaign.

“In fact, our employees pledged the highest amount ever in the history of our nine-year campaign,” said Douglas. “Giving back is not just something we do – it’s who we are.”

Nearly 70 percent of LG&E and KU employees participate in the companies' annual giving campaign through payroll deduction, more than twice the national average for employee participation in charitable giving.
