This Weekend's Weather: We're Prepared and Ready to Respond

Friday, December 6, 2013 Posted by Brian Phillips
As you begin your weekend, we want you to know that our crews are ready to respond 24/7 to any outages that may result from the inclement weather.

Heading into any major weather event, our team participates in numerous planning calls. We’re also in continual communication with the National Weather Service and our mutual assistance partners (other utilities that might be able to lend a helping hand if extra resources are needed). All of this ensures our crews can immediately go into action to efficiently return power to affected customers safely and as quickly as possible.

Safety is our top priority

Ice build-up on limbs is a potential safety hazard. Be aware of your
surroundings and take caution as you venture outdoors.
Safety is always a priority for us in difficult weather. As snow and ice accumulates, it can weigh down and break tree limbs, which can fall onto our power lines and cause power outages.

Always stay away from any downed line. Don’t assume a downed line is a cable or phone line. Treat any downed line as if it were energized and contact us immediately. In addition, do not try to move or drive over the line.

And, if you own a portable generator, it is extremely important that you operate it safely. Check out these important tips on our website.

Communication tools to keep you informed

We also know that communicating about an outage is almost as important as the restoration itself, because you have important decisions to make about your family or business.

That’s why in addition to our normal communications channels, we use this blog, our Twitter and Facebook accounts, and online outage map and outage map app for smart phones to provide you with near real-time updates and important information as an emergency situation unfolds.

You can also register your account at our website to report an outage and learn more about estimated restoration times once they’re known, in addition to using our automated telephone system.

We know you’re not likely to use your desktop computer if your power is out, but with today’s growing technology-savvy culture, these tools serve the needs of wireless customers who prefer instant online communication.

Stay tuned…

We’ll be providing updates on our website and social media channels throughout the weekend if the situation worsens. Be safe as you enjoy your weekend and know that we’ll be on the job – day and night – if Mother Nature causes any power outages.
