Scam alert issued as communities get ready for 30th Annual “National Night Out"

Tuesday, August 6, 2013 Posted by Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities 0 comments
Many folks in cities and towns will hold block parties tonight for the 30th annual National Night Out. The event helps neighbors get to know one another and talk about crime prevention. The idea is that friendly neighborhoods can be the best deterrent for criminals.

Safety is always at the forefront of our minds. We always work closely with law enforcement to alert customers about possible criminal activity and we recently alerted authorities to a phone scam. It works like this: a con-artist contacts customers claiming to be a utility employee and asks for immediate bill payment with either a credit card or prepaid money card. If the targeted customer does not cooperate, the caller threatens to disconnect the person’s electric or natural gas service. Customers who have been impacted by this scam should report it to their local police department.

Although this latest scam targets customers by phone, we encourage customers to always obtain positive identification if someone appears at your door stating they are there on the companies’ behalf. Our employees and contractors have badges with the company logo, the employee’s name and color photo.
Here is some more SAFE advice:

  •          Secure your personal information : LG&E and KU will never call and ask for credit or debit card numbers or other personal information. We never come to your home to collect a monthly bill.

  •          Always remember you have bill payment options: LG&E and KU offer customers a variety of official payment options. A complete list can be found at www.lge-ku.com/ways_to_pay.asp.

  •          First check with LG&E and KU if you’re suspicious: Customers who receive a suspicious live phone call, an email or letter should call LG&E and KU who will always verify official communications. LG&E customers should call 502-589-1444 (outside Louisville at 1-800-331-7370.) KU customers should call 1-800-981-0600.

  •          Elect to speak to an LG&E and KU representative: As a courtesy, LG&E and KU do make computer-generated calls to remind customers if their payment is late, and the call includes an option for customers to select if they want to make their payment by phone.

Backpack Giveaway 2013

Employee volunteers at the BOC in Louisville stuff backpacks.
Back-to-school supplies can be costly for many Kentucky families. Clothes, backpacks, pencils, pens and notebooks – it can really add up. Realizing the need in our community, our employee volunteers wanted to make sure the first day of class for many kids was “in the bag.”

To prepare for the giveaway, our folks stuffed nearly 16,000 backpacks with items purchased at cost through a partnership with Walmart. Some even brought their family members to help pitch in.

LG&E partnered with Louisville non-profits The Lord’s Kitchen and Feed the City to help distribute 3,200 backpacks to kids on Saturday. A steady stream of school buses packed with families arrived at our Broadway Office Complex. Volunteers then guided them to the appropriate designated tent to receive their supplies.

Parent Biona Thompson told CBS-affiliate WLKY in Louisville the supplies mean a lot to the kids. “When a kid is preparing to go to school, when you give our supplies, it gets them motivated for them to do better, to go to school and do what they are actually supposed to do, rather than playing around and getting in trouble,” said Thompson.

In Lexington, KU partnered with YMCA of Central Kentucky and Fayette County Schools to hand out 7,000 backpacks during the 8th annual “Back to School Rallies,” which are held in 17 Lexington neighborhoods.

Saturday’s distribution was just the first of many. 800 backpacks will be made available at various Jefferson County Public School resource centers. Another 5,000 backpacks will be distributed during back-to-school events organized by employee volunteers benefiting students in Fern Creek, Mt. Washington, Harrodsburg and Central City, and Bullitt, Meade, Ohio, Carroll and Trimble counties.

They are the men and women who answer the call during a power outage and help you with billing questions. Our call center employees strive to bring the best in customer service and now their work has received a ringing endorsement. We’ve been recognized with two international honors that reflects our commitment to enhance excellent customer satisfaction.

We received an honorable mention, behind the first and second place finishers, during the International Quality and Productivity Center’s 14th annual Call Center Week Awards showcase. LG&E and KU competed in the Best-in-Class Call Center category for companies with call centers of fewer than 200 staff. A panel of call center experts evaluated the entrants based on responses to a questionnaire. Some of the topics included: changes to company culture; strategies for inspiring excellence and motivation among customer representatives; overall call center strategy; and the basics of running a call center.
We also earned a Top 10 finish in Benchmark Portal’s annual Top 100 Call Center Contest. Benchmark Portal determined the winners using a statistical process in which each contestant was compared against the world’s largest database of call center metrics. A few of these metrics included customer satisfaction measures, productivity and efficiency.
Our 191 call center employees have gone through eight weeks of initialundergo rigorous training followed by an additional three weeks once they areto ensure they are proficient in handling all sorts of different types of customer calls. In addition to calls about outages and billing, our reps also take calls to start, change or restore electric and gas services. We have contact centers in four4 locations in Kentucky: Louisville, Lexington, Pineville and Morganfield.

In addition to our traditional call center, we offer a variety of online tools, programs and services that can save you time, energy and money. Just register your utility account with us – it’s fast, easy and secure – and login to get started.

Until next time, keep using energy wisely.

Working For You: New Morganfield Facility Enhances Field Operations, Customer Service

Thursday, January 12, 2012 Posted by Brian Phillips 0 comments
Today brought some excellent economic development and service news for our state and customers.

Earlier this morning, we were joined by state and local leaders from the western Kentucky area to open our new, consolidated business and operations center in Morganfield.

In terms of jobs, our 23,000-square-foot facility will house about 75 employees. The largest portion of those are in a new customer contact center that employs 34 now and will employ up to 54 by the end of the first quarter this year.

Our facility also consolidates our customer service business office representatives, western Kentucky economic development representative, line technicians, meter readers and field service personnel, all under one roof.

For customers, the facility also features ample parking, a walk-in center and a customer drive-up window. A storage facility for parts and equipment is also is on the grounds.

The contact center is already fielding calls from across KU and LG&E’s 94-county service territory, becoming the company’s fourth center in Kentucky.

As Chris Hermann, our senior vice president of Energy Delivery said: “Morganfield is an excellent site to expand our operations. We already had a presence in the community and existing facilities here, and the central location makes this a prime location for another storm-management hub."

And, as KU celebrates its 100th birthday later this year, this is a great place to kick off our second century of service to the state.

We've always said that we want the same service for everyone...the very best possible. The addition of this new facility is an extension of our commitment to you and your family.

Until next time, keep using energy wisely.
